On our way back to the ferry, we drove past Canada's tallest lighthouse at Point Amour (109 feet high, 128 stairs) and a Maritime Archaic Indian ceremonial burial mound of an adolescent 7500 years ago.
We caught the ferry back to Nfld at 6:00. Had a great chat with a crew member about life in the area. He lives aboard the ferry for 5 weeks then has 1-2 weeks off. He is off Feb & March when the Straight of Belle Isle is frozen over. The only way out of Labrador then is to fly. Truckloads of provisions are hauled in before the closure. Snow mobiles are the only mode of transportation during winter. He has seen up to 32 feet of snow, when they tie yellow ribbons around the tops of the telephone poles so snowmobilers don't run into them !!
Happy Birthday, Jan! Hope you had a lovely day! We celebrated with you in spirit with a friend of mine who shares your birthday! Keep having such a great time.
