
Caught Woodward ferry from St Barbe, Nfld to Blanc Sanblon, Que a 1.5 hour trip, smooth sailing. Were ushered into the harbour by a pod of dolphins. Drove 2 kms to the visitor center/museum in L'Anse au Claire, Lab. Checked into our overnight apartments in Forteau, the largest center along this 50 or so mile paved road. Had a terrific roast beef dinner ($12.95) at the Seaview Cafe across the road. The best part of the day was a lovely BATH in a real bathtub (having been wi

thout a tub for going on 20 years !!!)Next day we drove to the far end of the paved road to Red Bay, where we went to the Historical Site of the 16th century Basque whalers who came from France and Spain to get whale oil for the lamps of Europe. A Basque galleon, presumed to be the San Juan, was discovered sunk in the harbour and was brought up piece by piece by Parks Canada divers which took 5 years. It was then re-constructed
at 1:10 scale (which is in Ottawa) and at 1:20 scale here in the museum. When this was finished, all pieces were put back in the bay except for the artifacts which were on display, including a small boat (snorri).
